Projects

Build out stalls - fully inslate, heat/cool
We purchased a horse ranch with barn and 7 stalls. For our Galapagos tortoises, In central California, we have to provide heating for our cool nights and winters. We have converted 3 stalls so far, keeping them at 78°. We need to convert 4 more stalls.

Expand fencing for more pastures
As our Galapagos mature, we need to separate the pure species into their own breeding groups. A big part of our breeding success is giving Galapagos tortoise lots of room - at least 1/2 acre of pasture for a group. Currently we have a 900sq ft pen for our yearlings, a 1/3 acre pasture for our 2-4 year old juveniles, and a 1 acre pasture for our larger tortoises. We have over 2-1/2 acres set aside for future pastures.

Aquatic Turtle Display
We also keep North American species of aquatic turtles. House in temporary stock tanks, we are building a large pond as part of our "park" facility to display our turtles and give visitors a relaxing place to gather at its gazebo. A project in process, but long-term.

Build Learning Classroom
A place for visitors to view displays and learn about turtles and tortoises. Graphic and video displays. Tables and Workbooks. The north end of our barn is a 12 x 36 open storage area now. We want to close that off and finish it making the classroom.
